Who are you as a writer?

August 26, 2018January 12, 2019 kngiordanoLeave a comment

I’ve been considering this question for some time, even more after hearing Pernille Ripp’s “Creating Passionate Writers” talk at nErDcampMI. It’s such a complex question with many facets, and one that took a lot of inner reflection and consideration to answer. Mainly because, until I really sat down and started allowing myself to write freely,… Continue reading Who are you as a writer?

Professional development for #educators is so much more than just attending a conference. We engage in aspects of PD all the time, growing as teachers for the betterment of our practice. Each of us is passionate about this important work, so we seek out ways to be the absolute best we can be for our kids. THAT is PD. It’s time to redefine it. Book reviews are one of my favorite ways to cultivate our reading community. We start class with 15 mins of reading— Every. Single. Day. [another topic for another day 😂] When students finish a book, I invite them to share their review of it on @flipgrid ! I absolutely love this platform because it’s so engaging and fun for kids to use. The photo shows my guidelines for their reviews. I’ve found that giving them a starting point like this helps them feel more comfortable when they begin, and then they can get really into it and show their personalities! Anyone want to join our community & co-pilot? Let me know—we’d love to have you! . . . . . #middleschool #iteachmiddleschool #studentvoice #empowerstudents #personalizedlearning #sixthgrade #iteachsixth #iteachela #kidsdeserveit #teacherstyle #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #iteachwriting #teacherblogger #writingcommunity #teachersonfire #teachwriting #teachersgiveteachers #teachingresources #lessonplans #readingcommunity #classroomculture

Anyone else out there going to #nErDcampMI this summer?! I’m so excited for round 2 of what is easily the best conference I’ve ever attended. . . . . . #middleschool #iteachmiddleschool #studentvoice #empowerstudents #personalizedlearning #sixthgrade #iteachsixth #iteachela #kidsdeserveit #teacherstyle #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #iteachwriting #teacherblogger #teachersonfire #teachwriting
My experience with personalized learning has had its ups and downs, but it has been such a powerful shift in my practice. I’ve spent the school year really focusing on ways to empower my students and help them find their voices. The past four weeks in my classroom have been consumed with The Passion Project, a brand new unit I created this year. We’ve been researching, writing, and preparing to give a speech. Check out my new post at the link in my bio and get a link to all the lesson resources! ⬆️ . . . . . #middleschool #iteachmiddleschool #studentvoice #empowerstudents #personalizedlearning #sixthgrade #iteachsixth #iteachela #kidsdeserveit #teacherstyle #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #iteachwriting #teacherblogger #writingcommunity #teachersonfire #teachwriting #teachersgiveteachers #teachingresources #lessonplans
